In a genre full of tortured artists, it's probably not hip to say that The Alchemy Trio exists so we can have a laugh and play tunes that make us happy - but it does. Being on stage with your mates and making spontaneous music is one of the best feelings in the world.
Don't get us wrong, we take our music very seriously, but we never forget that art and spontaneous creativity should also be damn good fun. Musically, we strive to lay down toe-tapping grooves, to swing hard, to play clean, to express ourselves in the moment and to take chances.
We believe that if we commit to playing with passion and enthusiasm, people will feel and share in that too. In the modern world attention is the greatest gift you can give, so if you choose to listen to us we want you to have a good time.
It's that simple. And it’s brilliant fun.
Meet The Trio
Colin George Lamont - Drums
The engine at the heart of the Alchemy Trio. A mesmerising force of nature with chops to spare, Colin plays with fire and fury - but always with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.
Despite his formidable technique, he sees himself as an eternal student of the drum kit. He might look like a rocker, but jazz is his true love and his biggest influences include Gene Krupa, Shelly Manne, Buddy Rich and Steve Gadd.
Colin has been playing professionally for more than two decades, performing in India, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Ireland and the US to name just a few. He’s performed with artists such as Mark Lanegan (Queens of the Stone age),
Connie Lush, Martyn Lenoble (Jane's addiction) and Dave McCabe (Zutons).
When he’s not practising rudiments or swearing his way through transcriptions, Colin can usually be found watching Star Wars, eating vegan sausage rolls and eyeballing every cymbal auction on eBay.
“Playing with Alchemy Trio is truly me, unchained. I'm lucky enough to play with a band where I’m encouraged to let loose during our performances, safe in the knowledge that the other two are always guarding my gun-side. I f*cking love these guys.”
